I made a trip back to the mainland this summer to visit with family. While I was there I had a great opportunity to watch my sister in law, Rachel, while she worked on one of her latest creation. Rachel is the owner and artist, also referred to as reborner, behind Reborns by Rachel.

If you have never heard of these dolls I highly recommend you check them out.  Reborn dolls also known as Bodo dolls or Unliving dolls are vinyl skinned dolls that are created to resemble a real baby. It is kind of scary how closely they are made to resemble humans. They are even weighted to even feel like you are holding a real baby.

Each part of the doll is carefully created one step at a time from the multiple layers of paint to the eyes, body, limbs, and hair which is inserted into the head one strain at a time. Rachel has been a collector for many years and has been reborning babies for a about a year now.

This doll is made from the Kimberly kit but was made into a boy. She was a realborn which is a 3D scan of an actual real life baby.  The kit was made by Bountiful Baby.

My oldest, Zoe was lucky enough to get one while we were visiting. She was so excited to be able to make the choices on how her baby would look. Her doll was created using the Aubrey kit from Denise Pratt.

She said “My favorite part about making the dolls is the before and after look. I look at it like "wow I did that."”
